Tyres
Where do our tyres come from?
All our tyres are imported direct from Germany. Approximately every four months, Mike Burd (the owner of Euro Tyres) will travel to Germany and hand pick a container load of tyres to bring back. Once they tyres are dropped off at our workshop, they are pressure tested to ensure quality.
Why are they used tyres?
In Germany they will have different tyres for winter and for summer. It is the law that seasonally everyone must change their tyres to new ones no matter how good their current tyres are. All the old tyres (which can have up to 70% - 80% tread still on the tyre!) are sold back when they put the new tyres on.
What brands of tyres do we often have?
There is no definite to what brands we have in each tyre size, but quite often you will find brands such as: Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone, Firestone, Hankook, Federal, Continental, Uniroyal, Fulda and Yokohama.
All our tyres are premium brands.
What is the difference between directional and non-directional tyres?
Directional tyres are designed to rotate in one direction only (this is shown by an arrow on the sidewall with the word "rotation", pointing in the direction the tyre should rotate)
With this type of tyre the performance, wet grip, direction stability and handling is optimised.
A directional tyre can deliver this improved performance only if correctly fitted so that it is rotating in the direction intended.
If you are unlucky enough to have a puncture and your spare wheel has a directional tyre designed to rotate in the opposite direction to the tyre it is replacing, you are recommended to treat this spare wheel as a temporary spare and to drive at a reduced speed (80kph maximum). Make sure you have this tyre correctly fitted as soon as possible.
Why do tyre and wheel assemblies need balancing?
Manufacturing tolerances of wheels and tyres and variations of the way a tyre can be fitted on a wheel, make the assembly not exactly round. This can cause vibration, which is felt at the steering wheel when driving, particularly at high speed.
Which vehicles do the European tyres fit?
Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Citroen, Fiat, Jaguar, Lancia, Mercedes, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Rover, Saab, Volvo, VW are all examples of cars we can almost always fit tyres for.
